Conference League Southern Round 18 Review

We must first make mention of Hakoah, who have come from nowhere to remarkably snatch a finals spot, the exact position on the ladder to be confirmed over the next few days.
This uncertainity is as a result of the drama at Ninevah Club Soccer Field, where Camden Tigers lead 8-0 against the Fairfield Bulls just before half time. The departure off the field of a number of Bulls players meant they could not continue with less than seven players, and the match was abandoned, awaiting confirmation of the final result.
Three points to Camden City would mean that the Tigers would clinch the minor premiership, and that Hakoah would grab that all important runner up spot.
With games in hand and all to do, Hakoah started the week with a 10-0 annihilation of Greenisland on Tuesday evening. Pozniak was the chief destroyer, helping himself to four goals in total, including a first half hatrick.
Off to Seymour Shaw Park two days later on Thursday evening, and Hakoah continued where they left off with a 7-1 thrashing of Gazy Lansvale.
These midweek results put Hakoah level with White City in second position, but ahead on goal difference, so all they had to do to complete an unbelievable finish to the season was beat Sydney Cedars at Parry Park on Sunday afternoon, and a finals spot beckoned.
Win, and win well, they did, trouncing the Cedars 7-0, with a brace of goals to both Pillemer and Rimmer, whilst Joseph, Martin and Dinte all grabbed singles.
Who can deny Hakoah their position, backing up with three games in six days, for three wins, scoring 24 goals along the way ? a truly remarkable few days for the club.
White City did what they had to do, hoping for a slip up, by easily accounting for Greenisland SFC by 7-0 at Knights Park.
J. Palumbo grabbed four goals, including a first half hatrick in 18 minutes, whilst A. Palumbo and Kabbara also scored in the frenetic first period. Landrelli was the other goal scorer on 57 minutes to complete the rout for White City.
There was one other game in the Southern Conference, with no bearing on the competition ladder.
At Cherrybrook Park, Lilli Pilli came from one down at half time to beat Gazy Lansvale 2-1. Oneregovic put Gazy in front on 24 minutes, before Russell and Byrne scored within minutes of each other early in the second half to give Lilli Pilli the points.

Congratulations to the golden boot winner for the 2008 Southern Conference League, Navarrete, of Colo Colo Wanderers, who finished the year with a remarkable total of 26 goals. The little striker showed a real eye for goal, strong with both feet, as well as sharp in and around the box to score an average of higher than a goal a game.
Gazy Lansvale?s big striker Burnic grabbed the runner up spot with a very healthy 19 goals, and White City?s Kabbara ended the season with 14 goals in third position.
