Sydney stand ins stand tall

With starting defenders, Jacob Timpano and Simon Colosimo both watching from the sidelines, Shannon Cole and Robbie Middleby lined up at the back along-side Tony Popovic and Iain Fyfe, and they proved an impenetrable combination, keeping kept the reigning Champions scoreless at home.
?We defended exceptionally well, we got people into good areas and didn’t really let them in behind,? said FC coach John Kosmina. ?It’s always good to come here (Newcastle) and come away with something.?
Showing the class and determination that has seen Sydney FC installed as title favourite, the unorthodox defensive line-up repelled a late barrage of attempts on goal to help Clint Bolton keep his second clean sheet of the season.
?We had a lot of desperation in our own penalty area,? Kosmina reflected.  ?It was a good point, I was happy with it.?
With his team overcoming a number of obstacles to remain undefeated after 4 rounds, Kosmina admits he?s pleased with the way the team is travelling.
?It’s another game we didn’t concede,? he said. ?We played some really good stuff, so from the football progression I am really happy.?
This Saturday the Sky Blues will look to continue their strong start to the season when they take on Adelaide United at the Sydney Football Stadium.
