Sydney United icon Ante Milicic returns home

The 34-year-old striker has joined United since returning home from playing professionally in Malaysia to be the head coach for season 2009 & 2010 in the NSW Premier League Competition.
Ante Milicic has been celebrated in Australia and Asia for his match winning skills as a player. His career was second-to-none and the experience he has gained at playing in the top flight will now be honed into a new coaching career.
?Last week, Sydney United offered me the head coaching position for 2009 & 2010,” said Ante Milicic.
“After discussing several options with my family and advisers to either stay in Malaysia or join Sydney United, I have decided to join Sydney United and coach in the NSW Premier League Competition.
“I am proud to have played and come through the world famous Sydney United system as a junior of the club and now I look forward to the new challenge of growing with the club in this new endeavour as head coach.”
Having played in the old NSL, Ante also plied his trade quite successfully in Europe with NAC BREDA from Holland and NK RIJEKA in Croatia.
A brief stint again followed in Australia where he played for Sydney Olympic and Parramatta Power in the final days of the old NSL, which also had him win the golden boot for season 2003/04 in addition to him winning the Joe Marston and Johnny Warren Medals. And for the record, Ante scored the first hat-trick in the new A-League for the Newcastle Jets and then played for the Queensland Roar.
Milicic?s latest chapter of his career will see him joining one of Australia?s most successful clubs.
“Ante Milicic will have a great impact on the players and the team and more importantly, the club,” said Louie Apostolovski, Football Administrator of Sydney United.
“We are acquiring an individual that will not only be a great coach but a great ambassador for our players and supporters, and we wish him every success.?
