Over the Weekend 211 teams took part in the Football NSW 2008 Futsal State Championships held across two venues in Sydney?s west.
Penrith Regional Valley Sports Stadium held the junior Boys and Girls and Hawkesbury Indoor Sports Stadium held the 16 Boys, 16 Girls, Youth Boys, Senior Men and Women.
Teams from across the State congregated to take part and make this championship one of the best ever. There were a great number of fantastic games played during the weekend. The talent on show was good for the progression of the sport and it augurs very well for the NSW state teams that will participate at the Nationals in Canberra in January.
Some highlights of the weekend?
9 Boys: Sutherland Shire wining the 9 Boys final 2-1 over Dream Team. This was a truly enjoyable game of Futsal. It is great to see a fledgling club mixing it successfully with the ?big boys?.
13 Boys: Mascot Vipers (Eastside Eagles) winning their fourth consecutive title, with a 4-1 victory over Sydney Tigers.
16 Boys: Another new club to the sport, the Botany Bay Pirates, took the crown with an impressive 4-2 win over Crusaders.
In the Youth age group, the Plumpton Allstars game against Quake was a ripper, with these two evenly matched teams going down to the wire; Plumpton taking the honors 5-4 in extra time. Some excellent players on display ensure that the future of the sport is in good hands
14 Girls: Inner West Allstars took out the title with a hard fought 5-4 victory over Commodores.
16 Girls: Inner West Allstars beat a determined Eagles side in a nail biter, taking it out 5-4
Women?s Mascot Vipers won the title with an extra time victory over Sydney Magic PCYC by 4-2 in a game that featured end to end action throughout.
While in the Men?s final the Eagles triumphed quite comfortably over a gallant Inner West Allstars who were heavily handicapped by injury.
