Mariners women out to maintain momentum

Round 7 W-League action saw Stephen Roche?s pupils compose a near perfect 90? minute performance, culminating in the 6-0 defeat of the South Australian outfit.
The youthful Mariners side has been extremely good value this season though have constantly come undone during lapses of concentration; an issue that was very well addressed in Adelaide; coach Stephen Roche commented:
?Our performance against Adelaide United was very pleasing, we?ve been great for large parts of our matches though have failed to score goals and win matches.
?The win on Saturday was great because we stuck to our game plan, got the goals and we played well for the duration of the match, without conceding and losing concentration.?
Central Coast?s win was made even more impressive considering the side flew into Adelaide on the morning of the match; not ideal preparation for a season defining encounter.
?We struggled when we went to Melbourne earlier on in the season. We flew into Melbourne on the morning of the match and were very sluggish that day.
?This time we were better prepared mentally as we had that experience to draw upon, and the positive attitude of the team proved successful,? continued Roche.
The Mariners? charge to the finals-series took a major step with the Round 7 win, though the encounter this Saturday against Canberra United will be another telling stage for the side.
?We?ve played Canberra already this season (in Canberra) and we got a win there, though it was not at all an easy match; we?ll be in for a physical battle against them that?s for sure,? concluded Roche.
Central Coast Mariners face Canberra United in the Round 8 W-League encounter at Parramatta Stadium on Saturday evening with kick-off set for 6:00 pm.
