Lilli Pilli FC named team of the year

It was a coup for the club, which, historically, boasts a strong administration, coaching and team set-up and, with 1400 players, rivals Sutherland Shire neighbours, Gymea United, as the biggest junior football club in Australia.
The hot Lilli Pilli side team, defending Champion of Champions and past State Cup holders, was presented with the prestigious award by Socceroos star Harry Kewell, an idol to many of the boys, at the Hilton Hotel on Thursday night.
The award not only recognised the club’s continued success winning six premierships as well as NSW State Cup and Champion of Champions trophies but the fact the balanced team was well regarded by opponents due to their high standard of play.
Formed six years ago from Lilli Pilli and Cronulla RSL under-11 teams, the side has not been beaten in the past 18 months. From 150 games the side has played, they have only lost 10.
“Their coach, Craig Holland, played for the club and also won a Champion of Champions trophy at age 11,” said team manager Gary Moore.
Club president Greg Storey said he did not know what the biggest thrill for the boys was on presentation night; being presented the award by Harry Kewell or getting the chance to talk afterwards to Kewell and other Socceroo stars, including Tim Cahill, Lucas Neil and Vince Grella.
“Harry even sought out our left-side striker Chris Boland to have a special chat afterwards,” he said.
“Chris was over the moon.
“And with the Socceroos qualifying for the World Cup, it was a great night for the boys.”
