Super League Round 14 Review

Of the one match played, Bossy Liverpool continued their impressive rise up the ladder with a solid 2-2 draw with second-placed Spirit FC at Moorebank on Sunday afternoon.
While injured players relished the week off, the scenario of another catch-up round to fit in between now and the end of the season is causing headaches for coaches. Mile Todorovski, the man behind Rockdale?s meteoric return to the top of Super League, was one of many disappointed club officials. ?It?s no good like this ? 2-3 games then a break, 2-3 games then a break. No one can get in any rhythm. But what can you do.?
Spirit level with Bossy
Bossy coach Zlatko Nastevski did everything he could to make the most of an overcast day, marshalling his troops to a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Spirit FC at Ernie Smith Reserve on a soggy Sunday afternoon. It was second versus second last, but the game was a lot closer than that. Spirit went ahead early thanks to a third minute goal to G Maundrell before Liverpool restored parity via a David Wilson penalty kick on the half-hour to lock the halftime scores up at 1-1.
Lady luck followed Bossy into the second term and a deflected Daniel Wilson shot into the Spirit net put them in front for a second time eight minutes after the restart. But Liverpool?s side joy was shortlived as an own goal down the other end a minute later leveled the match again at 2-2, the scores unchanged at the fulltime whistle. Spirit are poised a point behind leaders Rockdale, and a point ahead of Macarthur and Parramatta. Liverpool went three points ahead of bottom club Fraser Park.
Spirit coach Jason van Blerk couldn?t hide the disappointment in his voice, but he remained philosophical. ?It wasn?t a classic and, overall, I?m just happy to get a point and get out of there; we were lacking something today,? he said. ?We controlled the game in spells but couldn?t capitalise on our chances.?
?To get the game out of the road was pretty good. There is a lot of football that other teams have to play [Mount Druitt and Parramatta have three catch-up games, everyone else bar Bossy, St George and Granville are two matches behind]. It would have been good to look at the table tomorrow morning and see us go top, but it just wasn?t to be. I think most sides will struggle to get points at Liverpool.?
