Rarely does a season come along such as this.
A team which has gone so close so many times in various competitions finally put it all together and was well rewarded.
Competing in the Association’s U17 Division 1 competition, Inter Lions progressed to the Minor and Major Premierships in style. They had a perfect season! 15 wins from 15 rounds (42-7 f/a) together with two finals victories set them apart from the other teams in the competition.
During the 2009 winter the team contested and won the U17 Sydney Cup. It took 5 wins in this knock-out competition to take home the title. To make it even more impressive they had to compete with fellow Association team Enfield (2-0) for the title. Along the way they accounted for 2008 U16 Champion of Champions winner Eastwood St Andrews (2-1) and 2008 U16 State Cup winners Sydney Juniors (2-1).
And finally after a number of years of getting close, they won the most prestigious of state competitions, the Football NSW U17 Champion of Champions.
Over the last few years the teams that have knocked out Inter Lions went on to win the title.
This year however was Inter’s turn.
They finished the year in great style handing Wollongong Olympic a 5-0 thumping in the Final at Valentine Park. A tremendous effort.
The team finished 2009 undefeated in all competitions.
This was a result of hard work and heartache of previous years.
The experience gained by all during these times have made 2009 all the more rewarding for this remarkable group.
