The ABS data recorded the activities of the 2.7 million children aged five to fourteen in Australia and brought forward the results that football polled at number one.
It displayed that outdoor football was the most popular sport for boys with a 20% participation rate.
Swimming had a participation rate of 17% while AFL had 16%.
This statistic only furthered the message that the round ball game is on the rise especially at youth level.
