Arrive alive Women?s Super League Round 1 Review

The Arrive Alive Women?s Super League got off to an exciting start today with some sterling efforts from the league?s newcomers and some opening salvos from more established clubs.
Central Coast Lightning had the bye on the opening weekend of the competition. They commence their season with an away game against Apia/Leichhardt Tigers next weekend.
Apia found the going tough in their first round match with Eastern UNSW Lions. The league?s new girls put in a sterling effort. They eventually shared the points with one of the competition favourites after a 2-2 draw.
Unfortunately I have no information regarding the goal scorers in this game.
EASTERN UNSW LIONS 2
APIA-LEICHHARDT TIGERS 2
Springwood United turned in a similarly promising effort, grabbing an early lead over St George FC through a Casey Palczewski in the 14th minute.
Springwood continued to lead deep into the 2nd half before two goals in 5 minutes; one from Tambelekes in the 70th minute, the other by Sender in the 75th minute, ruined the Springwood United?s dream of a first up win. However, Springwood could take a lot of positives from their effort.
St George FC showed plenty of grit to hang in and overcome the early deficit. A win in game one would certainly be a terrific tonic after the disappointments of 2009
SPRINGWOOD UNITED 1 (C.Palczewski 14m)
ST GEORGE FC 2 (M.Tambelekes 70m, C.Sender 75m)
At Peel Park the Gladesville Ravens did battle with the visiting Northern Tigers.
Nikki Ridley opened the scoring in the 9th minute but struggled to finish off the battling Tigers. Fatma Agar produced a little of her goal scoring magic to cement the three points for her side with a goal in the 72 minute.
The Tigers put in their usual enthusiastic effort but Gladesville were just a little too good on the day.
GLADESVILLE RAVENS 2 (N.Ridley 9m, F.Agar 72m)
NORTHERN TIGERS 0
Over at Melita Stadium PCYC Lady Hawks played host to the Blacktown Spartans.
The Spartans jumped out of the blocks quickly with goals to Hetherington in the 11th minute, Zuerb in the 24th minute and Shannoniz in the 25th minute. The shell shocked Lady hawks were obviously thrown right of their stride and struggled to compete.
A 38th minute reply by Gina Ryanhart gave the Lady Hawks some hope but the second half proved to be scoreless and The Spartans opening surge was enough to ensure their victory.
PCYC LADY HAWKS 1 (G.Ryanhart 38m)
BLACKTOWN SPARTANS 3 (S.Hetherington 11m, A.Zuerb 24m, K.Shannoniz 25m)
This season?s Arrive Alive Women?s Super League looks like being a very competitive one. There appears very little between a number of sides, as shown by this weekend?s results. The 2010 season promises plenty of excitement. I?m already looking forward to next week!
I?ll see you at YOUR nearest ground next weekend.
