Cahill on the rise at Blacktown FC

?I?m a Kiama boy and love the South Coast but as I am doing a degree in Commerce at Sydney University I needed to relocate at some stage.?
Both clubs have had well documented financial problems in recent times so did this in any way influence the moving on process?
?Not at all. There are some great people who are doing a terrific job in the local area around the South Coast but I had to come to Sydney for my course and we were very unlucky down there last season when, particularly toward the end, results could have gone either way and things could have been so different for the team.
?The opportunity to come to Blacktown cropped up and they are a very well organised club with a great set up and in Aytek Genc they have a very good coach with experienced background people and that shows in the results both in the past and now as they have a strong pedigree in this league.?
It?s never that easy to slot into a new side with new training methods and style of play so how has it been? ?For the first couple of weeks I was testing the waters I suppose to see what was going on but with a terrific coach and some great players it was made all the easier for me and the training ground banter is brilliant so you are really made to feel a part of things quickly.?
With a very demanding study course at Uni plus training three times a week and a match at the weekend, life is run at a hectic pace for the lad but as he says: ?I?m quite used to it as I was on a sport scholarship in the USA and that carries with it a heavy schedule and the way I look at it is I have set myself targets I want to achieve and this is all just a part of my being able to reach them as soon as possible.
?It is full on of course but it keeps you focused and hopefully will all be worth it in the end.?
Cahill is a likeable lad who jokes a lot in interviews…..but I wouldn?t fancy coming across him on the pitch as he is so dedicated but off the field he is providing a good role model to any youngster that football can give a marvellous life if you?re lucky but study will always get you something to fall back on.
