Help us Tackle Cancer and Get your Club Involved in Call To Arms

Call to Arms aims to raise awareness and funds to fight cancer in men. Call to Arms is asking players from all codes and all level to simply wear a yellow armband for one game of the season. The official month for this year?s Call to Arms campaign is July, but you can hold your match at any time throughout your season.
It?s easy to take part with minimal administration and can help attract even more spectators to a match as well as save lives.
Just register your club at www.calltoarms.com.au
The fact is everyday over 160 decent Aussie men will be diagnosed with cancer. That?s a pretty sobering thought especially when you consider there?s a one in two chance blokes you know could be among them, if not today then one day in the future.
What a lot of people don?t realise is that at least one in three cancers are preventable. Simple things like lifestyle choices and getting regular check ups can help prevent cancer. The trouble is men generally aren?t on the front foot when it comes to their health. It?s easier to avoid a trip to the doctor.
We need your club?s help to change this attitude and save lives.
Parramatta Eels front-rower Tim Mannah is one bloke who knows the importance of staying on top of health issues. Last year Tim?s brother Jon, who props for the Cronulla Sharks, was diagnosed with a rare form of Lymphoma. The cancer was discovered when Jon visited the doctor about a foot injury ? he wasn?t even feeling ill.
Jon?s treatment will benefit because the Lymphoma has been caught early, but if it wasn?t for the footy injury, it probably wouldn?t have been discovered until it was too late. Tum wants to pass on his brother?s lucky story and help encourage blokes to be proactive about their health even if they feel fine.
?Cancer isn?t a myth. Especially now I realise how common it is, and how important it is to go to the doctor and it can actually save your life if you do.
?People should get involved in Call to Arms because it saves lives. The more people that get involved the more awareness will be raised and the more lives will be saved. It?s a big deal, people should jump on board.?
With half of all men facing cancer diagnosis, it could be your club mates, community and family who benefit from Call to Arms.
