NSW Police Football Club clinch Gold Medal at Annual Police Games

As has become the trend with the NSWPFC, their campaign begun slowly with an unconvincing 1-1 draw with Lake Macquarie, captain Andrew Barnes scoring the equaliser minutes from full time. They didn?t look back from this point as they progressed through the remainder of the group stage with a 6-0 win over the NSW Fire Brigade and a 6-0 defeat of The State Crime Command. Ben Fuller and Jesse Howard were both instrumental through midfield.
In the knock out stage of the tournament the NSWPFC easily accounted for another side made up of officers from the State Crime Command (Soccerhoos) 6-0, with Travis Bardsley scoring in his first tournament back after an 18 month absence with a knee injury.
The final was a hard fought affair against Corrective Services, goalkeeper Craig Barrass saving a penalty deep into the second half. Striker Denny Bird blasted home a long range winner with only minutes remaining to secure the gold medal. The back line of Matt Chapel and Adrian Buttigieg were reliable as ever
The NSWPFC wish to thank the ongoing support of its sponsor?s The Police Credit Union, Southern Anesthetic Services, Dave Huxley of Kingsgrove Sports as well as Paul Goreski from Rockdale City Suns for the use of their excellent facilities at Bicentennial Park at Rockdale.
