State League One Round 15 Preview
Mounties Wanderers ? Fairfield City Lions
7-00pm, Saturday, June 26 @ Cook Park
Anthony Crea?s Mounties will be hoping for back to back wins on Saturday when they entertain the high flying Fairfield City Lions.
One of five teams separated by three points in mid table, Mounties showed real fighting qualities to win last weekend by playing 84 minutes with ten men, boosted by the return of skipper Daniel McCann.
Fairfield have hit a real purple patch of late, and will rely on their lethal attack, which has netted them a (equal) competition high, 37 goals thus far this season.
Stanmore Hawks ? Hurstville ZFC
7-00pm, Saturday, June 26 @ Arlington Oval
Stanmore Hawks will be hovering for three points at Arlington Saturday when they welcome bottom placed Hurstville ZFC.
With the partnership of Eli Squillacioti and Wasim Hijazi firing on all cylinders, it will be a tough task for Hurstville, who have only had the solitary victory in 2010 thus far.
Hills Brumbies ? Camden Tigers
7-00pm, Saturday, June 26 @ Second Ponds Oval
Hills Brumbies face a stern task at home on Saturday given the visit of Camden Tigers.
Hills had a resounding 5-1 win over Inter Lions last weekend, and have proven consistent performers this year with 10 victories from 13 matches.
But Camden will be no pushovers, and last Sunday did what Hills failed to do recently – beat a stubborn Schofields Scorpions, so look out for a real test for the league leaders.
BlacktownSpartans ? Inter Lions
7-00pm, Saturday, June 26 @ Francis Park No.2
Inter Lions will be licking their wounds fllowing last week?s spanking versus Hills, so expect them to come out all guns blazing against Blacktown Spartans on Saturday.
But Blacktown have proven tough opponents this season for any team ? just ask the Premier League scalps they have overcome in the MacDonalds Cup ? and Inter old boys, Lachlan Wright and Adrian Vizzari, will no doubt be out to put one over their old club.
Schofields Scorpions ? Gladesville Ryde Magic
7-00pm, Saturday, June 26 @ CSI Sport Ground
Schofields will be hoping to vent the anger of last week?s last gasp loss to Camden during the visit of Gladesville Ryde Magic to CSI Sport Ground on Saturday.
Schofields have allowed a host of clubs to be within striking distance of them due to recent results, and nothing short of a win here is required if they are to maintain fourth position on the ladder.
UNSW ? Balmain SC
3-00pm, Sunday, June 27 @ David Phillips Field
UNSW will be hoping for a change in fortunes when they tackle Balmain at David Phillips Field on Sunday afternoon.
Coach Luke Andrews has had to endure a horrific injury toll in recent weeks, with the club?s depth tested like never before, and will welcome three points against Balmain, no matter how it comes.
Division One Goalscorers
(Round Fourteen)
Fairfield?s enigmatic playmaker, Yavos Ekinci, still leads the goalscorers list, with 12 goals a healthy return from an attacking midfielder. Stanmore?s Wasim Hijazi closed in on 11 goals with a second half strike last weekend, whilst team mate, Eli Squillacioti, nabbed a hat trick to move onto 7 goals himself for the season.
Todd Macrae also grabbed a hat trick, for Blacktown Spartans, moving to 8 goals, whilst team mate, Glenn McPherson, moved onto 10 goals and is in third position.
