Suns still in the hunt for a late Finals rush
Rockdale coach Mile Todorovski was very pleased with the result and the amount of courage shown by his players throughout the game.
?Our team is very united, we always perform to our best effort, and with the effort today it showed our fans the great spirit this club endures.?
Todorovski stated that even though there is still a chance to make the finals his team needs to keep up the positive spirit that can at the end lead to many triumphs.
?I enjoy training this group and they make it so easy for me with the positive attitude they bring to every game.?
The first-half began with both sides sharing the possession trying to suss each other out in what was a tight midfield contest. However, both teams lacked the finishing touch in front of goal early on.
South Coast Wolves came up with the first shot on goal in the 8? minute as Tynan Diaz found some space to unleash a reasonable strike, however Wolves goalkeeper Brody Crane was alert to make a vital stop.
The Wolves began dominating possession midway through the half with right back Nick Littler playing a dominant role, causing plenty of havoc for the Rockdale defence.
Rockdale had their first real chance in the 17? minute when a strike from Rockdale playmaker Baturay Akin nearly opened the scoring. Akin unleashed a strike with venom, however Crane held on with a brilliant stop once again.
Rockdale maintained the pressure and Pece Cvetanovski came closest in the first-half after his strike from the left flank confused the Wolves defence, beating everybody including Brody Crane, only for his effort to curl slightly wide.
Substitute Andy Paine came on for the Wolves to spark some life into the game and his impact was immediate. In the 39? minute, his shot forced the Rockdale defence to act swiftly as mayhem struck inside the 18-yard box with the ball eventually being cleared out by the home side.
Following the break, Rockdale?s Baturay Akin had a one-on-one opportunity to open the scoring, however Brody Crane showed his experience making a brilliant stop. It was the best chance of the game for the home-side – the Wolves goalkeeper standing firm in goal.
Akin was at it again moments later as he nearly pulled off a lob over Brody Crane in the 48? minute. Unfortunately for the Suns, the pressure by two sharp Wolves defenders was enough to see the ball cleared away to safety.
The home-side came out in the second-half with full momentum and confidence and the Wolves defence was frustrated, especially when Rockdale midfielder Dominic Hudap showcased his skill and control, juggling past the Wolves midfield.
Lisandro Berbis came closest for the Wolves in the 52?, a ball from the left flank fell neatly to his feet but his attempt was blocked by some desperate Rockdale City defence.
Rockdale?s Josh Lawson and Cventavnoski created a chance in the 60? playing a neat one-two together for a left sided cross. But, again, the finishing touch was lacking in front of goal for the home-side and the frustration was kicking in with eleven draws already in the 2010 season playing on their minds.
The Suns were controlling all parts of the game but the time was against them. Wolves were on the back foot but the defence was still holding their ground
Suns captain Peter Apolevski was outstanding, though his forward runs were letting him down with some poor attempts to get a foot to the ball. Adem Kir was influential down the right side but once again the Rockdale forwards were lacking the finishing touch.
Rockdale looked to the bench and a great substitution from coach Mile Todorovski produced the match turner.
Substitute Saso Trajcevski latched onto a brilliant cross from Adem Kir to put the home-side in the lead 83? minutes. The home crowd was ecstatic knowing that a win would move them closer for a chance to play finals football in 2010.
In the 85? minute, Rockdale lifted in momentum and a scramble in the Wolves defence allowed Trajcevski a chance to get a shot on target, though Brody Crane held firm deny the Suns a second goal.
Rockdale finished with all three-points in a nail biting game, an important win that could decide their finals fate. Mile Todorovski said his players showed a lot of heart especially after having played a mid-week catch up game:
?The boys are so fit and they will always give it their all for the full 90? minutes. I am proud of this performance, we deserved the win because of the effort and stamina we showed throughout.?
