Despite his passion for soccer, finding a team for Alex to play in was difficult for his mum, Lucy Reggio, said.
?There were no teams due to no sport for kids with special needs,? Reggio said.
?My son Marc has been playing soccer since he was four-and-a-half and Alex had no recreational activity to go to.
?Now these kids are developing social skills in a team sport, it?s increasing their gross motor skills, providing new friendships and even socialisation for the families.
Alex, of Bonnyrigg, is this week?s nominee for the Fairfield Advance Junior Sports Star Award, which comes with a prize of up to $2,000 for the overall winner.
Alex said his position on the field was ?goal scorer? and he supported Sydney FC because ?they?re a good team?.
He tipped Spain to win the World Cup and listed Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo as his favourite players, although the later had fallen a little out of favour with Alex since he left Manchester United.
Most of all, Alex loves kicking the ball around with his brother Marc, 14.
?We fight every time,? Alex said.
?He tackles me,? Marc added.
?He enjoys it.
?It?s funny watching him score ? he just goes off. But he doesn?t pass the ball.
?We play FIFA on PlayStation and he just goes nuts.?
