Young Allstars too quick for Eagles.

Ashleigh Connor was obviously primed for a big game and had the games first opportunity which was brilliantly saved by Amanda Bowering in the Eagles goal, and then the next which went just millimetres wide with a spectacular drive.
Bowering was being kept very busy and made another good saved from Rose Scarlato.
Renee Tomkins one of the inform players of the competition then had a great opportunity for the Eagles with a low drive which was well saved well by Amanda Horafios.
The games opening goal went the way off the Allstars. Ash Connor won a 50-50 ball with a bone crunching tackle on Brooke Cowie and played in Natasha Lo Giudice who after some sublime footwork hit her shot under the advancing Bowering to open the scoring.
Almost immediately Melissa Link could?ve equalised as her shot trickled just wide of the goal from a difficult angle.
Within a minute the Allstars were further ahead a well worked move between Connor and Scarlato gave Scarlato the room she needed to beat her player down the right. She drew the keeper and played a delightful ball square to Lo Giudice who got her second of the game by tapping into an open goal.
Lo Giudice was in everything. Five minutes remained in the half when she played a 1-2 with Helen Petinos who returned the ball to her strike partner and just as she was about to strike was fouled by Bowering and a penalty was awarded.
With an opportunity to get her hat trick inside the first half the normally deadly Lo Giudice struck her penalty against the post.
The penalty miss seemed to rejuvenate the Eagles. First Tomkins and then Perfillio were denied by good Horafios saves and with 3 minutes out from half time Fabiana Perfillio broke the Allstar resistance and pulled one back for the Eagles.
Within 30 seconds after being second best for most of the half the Eagles were back on level pegging after a Tomkins free kick found the back of the net.
Whatever was said at half time on the Allstar bench obviously worked because within seconds of the restart a well worked move between Connor and youngster Jessie Wharepouri set up a chance for Petinos only for her shot to go wide.
The Allstar youngsters were beginning to make an impression and another player promoted from their younger side in Chloe Logarzo played a lovely ball to Ash Connor who restored the Allstar lead just a minute and a half after the restart with a neat little chip shot over the quickly advancing Bowering.
Petinos was beginning to become more and more influential and had two shots both of which went antagonisingly close.
The Eagles though you can never write off. After soaking up so much pressure the experienced Eagles just wait until they find an opportunity and seven minutes into the second half they were once again back on level terms.
Jodie Bain played Perfillio who back heeled the ball back to Bain who unleashed a venomous shot which struck the post, fortunately for the Eagles Steph Ascone was on hand to drill the ball in amongst plenty of traffic to equalise for the Eagles.
Cowie and Bain again went close only for some desperate Allstar defence denying the experienced Eagles duo from getting their names on the score sheet.
The Allstars were beginning to take back the ascendency but Bowering was doing a great job keeping her side in the game making 2 great saves from Lo Giudice in quick succession.
But this time Lo Giudice turned provider.Taking a corner Lo Giudice flicked the ball across to an oncoming Connor who headed home from close range to get her second of the game and wrestle back the lead.
With two minutes remaining the always dangerous Tomkins had a shot which went just wide and then Heidi Makrillos had half a chance but was denied by a slide block by Scarlato which was one of three the Allstar captain made within a matter of 20 seconds.
That desperation proved enough as the Allstars hung onto a gritty but well deserved victory over a very good Eagle side.
The Eagles suffering only their second defeat of the season are still right there to go back to back, whilst on this performance the Allstars might just be the team that could be the surprise packet of the competition.
