APIA’s Apprentices Downed By Nagoya Grampus 8 by 4-0
The Japanese fulltime professionals found Apia’s energetic young players difficult to break down in the first half and the team from the Land of The Rising Sun struggled to a 1-0 lead at the break.
A glorious Japanese 32nd minute goal struck by their left winger from wide out on an acute angle lifted the Asians into the lead.
However the second session started off disastrously from the very first minute.
Nagoya Grampus scored their second when Apia’s goalie, Anthony Cachia poorly cleared allowing a Japanese player to quickly zip in, intercept, to scoot away to nail the empty net in the 46th minute to make it 2-0.
Apia stuck to their orthodox 4-2-3-1 system which the seniors use as well.
The Japanese side scored their third in the 55th minute through a wild scramble inside the six yard box and almost immediately after the re-start scored their fourth and final goal.
Coach Tony Raciti stated after the match:
“Of course I’m not happy to loose, but what a wonderful opportunity our young lads had being exposed to these Japanese fulltime pros in the J-League.”
Best performers for the Apia team were left midfielder Aaron Caltabiano, midfielder Blake Brooker and very young, lanky central defender Dylan Caton.
