Project22 Supports the Leukaemia Foundation

1

On the 12th of March, all Project22 competition games were held at Valentine Sports Park. This was a great opportunity to have all twelve Project22 regions together including our three Country regions, Southern, Western and Riverina.
With over 400 children aged 9 to 12 years playing thirty-eight games throughout the day, Valentine Park was awash with added colour as some great football was played.
Players, coaches, family and friends were all able to colour their hair on the day, making a gold coin donation to support The Leukaemia Foundation main fundraising event the “World’s Greatest Shave”.  The High Performance Unit and Project22 were proud to be among the thousands of people across the country either shaving or colouring their hair to support such a worthy cause.
Since 1998, World?s Greatest Shave has raised in excess of $106 million and support for the Foundations biggest source of income has never been more important.
Every hour, someone in Australia is diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Every two hours, someone dies from one of these blood cancers. The money raised by community groups like Project22 is used by the Leukaemia Foundation to fund services to support patients and families living with leukaemia’s, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. All Leukaemia Foundation services are free. Money raised also funds blood cancer research to find better treatments and cures.
The HPU would like to thank all our players, coaches, parents and friends for their support and donations on the day.
Project22 was able to raise $1066.95 for The Leukaemia Foundation following donations made both on the day and online at www.worldsgreatestshave.com The HPU would also like to thank especially the mums and dads who coloured hair and collected donations throughout the day.
A special thanks also to the HPU staff who coordinated an excellent game day, to our hardworking coaches, to our Country players and parents who travelled long distance to be part of the day and to our Sydney based players and parents who we see working hard each and every week at their local training centres.
The day was very well supported by the Blacktown Referees Association who supplied a very talented and matured group of young referees whose efforts were very much appreciated on the day.
