CDSFA to introduce Volunteer Recognition

The volunteer recognition program will see the introduction of an Association Medal which will be named the Vince & Val Laws Medal.
The Medal has been named after two of the Association?s stalwart members, Vince and Val Laws.
The CDSFA decided to name the medal after Vince and Val Laws because of their length of service to community football which goes back fifty years. Vince Laws has an unbroken involvement with the sport going back seventy two (72) years.
Commenting upon the decision to name the medal after Vince and Val Laws, CDSFA President Ian Holmes said, ?Vince and Val embody the true spirit of volunteerism. They represent a part of society today which is very much in decline. Lifelong commitment to volunteerism is what builds a strong and healthy community.
?Sporting and community groups depend upon unselfish people willing to give their time to help and assist others. They are the back bone which delivers many activities and programs.?
Association Secretary Joseph Kuchappan stated, ?The CDSFA will establish an annual event where a volunteer from each Club will be recognised for their service and at which the Association will also present the Vince and Val Laws Medal to an individual whose dedication and service is so exceptional it merits special recognition.
?Clubs will be invited each year to nominate someone from their Club who meets the spirit of volunteerism criteria established by the Association to be acknowledged.
As well all Clubs will have the opportunity to nominate an individual for consideration for the Vince & Val Laws Medal. The person does not have to be from their Club and can be an individual from another club. This is all about the football family in the inner west celebrating the service of an unsung community hero.? Kuchappan explained.
Selection of the Vince & Val Laws Medal will involve a panel which will include members of the civic community.
The CDSFA spans the seven major inner west local Councils (Ashfield, Burwood, Canada Bay, Canterbury, Leichhardt, Marrickville and Strathfield) and has over 13,500 registered players making it the largest sporting association closest to the Sydney CBD.
