Football NSW is proud announce the search for the Ultimate ‘Soccer Mum’ winner in what was a fantastic initiative celebrating and thanking these everyday heroes who support their child’s involvement in playing football in NSW.

Lucy Reggio of Bonnyrigg Heights has been awarded the title of Football NSW’s Ultimate ‘Soccer Mum’ for her continued efforts towards Special Needs football and the Southern Districts Soccer Football Association.
Lucy is the Community Development Project Officer for Mission Australia as well as holding a position down at the Les Powell School as a Community Liaison Officer and is also the President and founder of the Special Needs Ability Program Providers (SNAPP).

Working with people with disabilities is particularly close to Lucy’s heart, as her 15-year-old son Alex was one of only a handful of people in Australia to be diagnosed with the rare genetic disorder Robinow Syndrome.

During Alex’s early years, Lucy and her husband Robert were told that Alex would never walk, attend a mainstream school or undertake “normal” activities. Lucy saw this as a challenge, which gave her more determination to ensure that all children with special needs are part of an inclusive community with the same opportunities and are not made to feel different.

Lucy’s achievements were echoed by her son Alex who had nothing but praise for his ‘Super Mum’.
“Mum has given me and other children with special needs the opportunity to play soccer. She is always there to cheer me and my brother on. She always volunteers her time for all those in need regardless of the task at hand.”
Thanks to our prize pack partners; Accor Hotels, Beauty Heaven, IGA, hummel, Roses Only, Football Federation Australia and Women’s Fitness Magazine, Football NSW had over $3,500 worth of amazing prizes.
Entrants were asked to enter the competition by visiting the Football NSW website and in 25 words or less explain why their mum deserved to be labelled as Football NSW’s Ultimate ‘Soccer Mum’.
