Marc Richards has played his last game for Manly United FC in the IGA NPL Mens 1 competition, taking up a coaching position in his native United Kingdom.
From June 10 onwards, the 31-year-old will call the shots at Hartpury College, who play out of Gloucestershire in the West of England.
Richards arrived at Cromer Park ahead of the 2011 season, and quickly forged a reputation as a no nonsense defender.
While sad to be leaving the peninsula, it was an opportunity he couldn’t let slip by.
“When they approached me, it was always going to be hard to say no,” Marc said.
“I am from there and proud of my roots.
“I also have a young son Jack, and my wife and I felt it was important he grow up around a family support network.”
Richards has vowed to return to Australia one day and will keep close tabs on United’s fortunes.
“I have loved my time at the club, it has been brilliant,” he said.
“Unfortunately red tape prevented me from playing this year, but my two years I thoroughly enjoyed.
“Winning the Waratah Cup (in 2011) was the definite highlight, and in recent months working with Craig (Midgley) as assistant coach has been fantastic.
“I have no doubt the club will continue to grow, it has been a pleasure to be a part of it all.”
Richards’ new role at Hartpury is Senior Football Academy Manager.
He will oversee six teams, with his main focus the Universities first XI, who play on Wednesday afternoons.
The Manly United Football Club would like to thank Marc for all his support while he has been at the Club and wishes him and his family all the best in his new role.
