Girls Continue Success of NSW State Indigenous Football Festival
Following the success of the Boys event in September, the Girls NSW State Indigenous Football Festival celebrated both culture and talent at the National Indigenous Centre of Excellence in Redfern recently.
Female players from Northern, Southern, Western and Metropolitan NSW, as well as Riverina, enjoyed a weekend of sun, fun and football as the Southern NSW Goannas managed to come away with a Grand Final victory without conceding a single goal throughout the tournament.
During the evening, players were introduced to Traditional Indigenous Games by Scott Luschwitz (Coach of the Northern NSW Metro Dingoes) and Football NSW Game Development Officers.
Appearances were also made by Western Sydney Wanderers and Westfield Matildas player Kyah Simon, as well as Sydney FC’s superstar midfielder Renee Rollason. Both were hoping to observe and inspire the next generation of Australian W-League stars.
Football NSW Game Development Manager Hayley Todd was extremely happy that the Girls festival continued with the same level of success as the Boys. “A great weekend of football was had and I would like to congratulate to the participants, team officials, referees and volunteers who made the Girls State Indigenous Football Festival a huge success. “
The NSW State Indigenous Football Festival is held in conjunction with the Football Federation Australia’s “Football Dreaming” initiative.
