The Westfield W-League season kicks-off this weekend with Western Sydney Wanderers taking on Adelaide United on Sunday 10 November at Marconi Stadium, the club’s WWL home ground for the 2013/14 season.

The match kicks-off at 2pm and will be followed by the Foxtel National Youth League match between the Wanderers and Brisbane Roar at 4:10pm.

The Westfield W-League is the highest tier of women’s football in the country and one of the best leagues in the world. Having recruited strongly and retained key players a title challenge for the Wanderers is a real possibility.

With a number of Wanderers players coming from Marconi, Western Sydney Wanderers Executive Chairman Lyall Gorman said that playing matches at Marconi Stadium was a very logical step.

“There’s a lot of history at Marconi Stadium and it’s in the heart of Western Sydney so it’s wonderful to able to bring top flight women’s football back to the venue,” said Gorman.

“We have an existing partnership with Club Marconi and we’re excited to extend that to providing great facilities, and a good crowd, for both our women’s and youth team.

“We played our opening Foxtel Youth League home match at Marconi last Sunday in front of a Club record attendance so the signs are already positive.”

Club Marconi Football Operations Manager Jesse Mariani said this was a partnership that would benefit both parties.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to compliment and further strengthen the great relationship between our two clubs,” said Mr Mariani.

“The turnout of supporters last Sunday was a tremendous indicator of the support for the Wanderers from football fans right across Western Sydney.”
