FNSW Educates Football to Pennant Hills HS

Football NSW promoted the wonderful game via the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge to Year 8 and 9 students at the Pennant Hills High School on Friday November 15th.

Football NSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez along with Football NSW Development Officers Andrew Mastoris and David Plowright visited the School encouraging students to take part in sport and physical activity leading them to a healthy lifestyle.

“Football NSW has now entered the second year of supporting the NSW Premier’s Sports Challenge and the key initiatives of leadership through coaching,” said Gonzalez.

“These year 8 and 9 students obtaining their FFA coaching grassroots certificate is the first step in a long road to keep students involved in the game and at the same time helping younger players at primary school have a positive football experience.” 

Part of the NSW Premier’s Sports Challenge, a NSW Government initiative, the program commenced in 2008 which has featured a range of fantastic programs which includes:

The Premier’s Primary and Secondary School Sport Challenges to encourage students to reach a pre-determined target of physical activity set by each school

·    Get Active in the Middle Years Program to enhance the engagement of students through sport and physical activity as they progress from primary to secondary school

·       Girls in Sport Intervention and Research Project to promote the participation of girls aged 14-16 years in sport and physical activity

·     Sport Leadership Program to support students in developing the skills to organise, administer, coach, referee or train a variety of sports and modified activities

·         Sports Equipment to Schools Program to provide tied grants to schools to purchase sports equipment.

The program was launched in 2008, with 400 schools and 78,000 students taking part in the inaugural year. In 2009, over 158,000 students from more than 820 schools took up the Challenge.

Cronulla High School (Tuesday November 19th), Orange High School (November 26th), Young High School (November 28th), Narrabeen SHS, Northern Beaches Mackellar Girls, Balgowlah Boys, Cromer High School (December 4th) will be just some of the many schools Gonzalez and company will help assist with the promotion of football via the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge.
