Australian Beach Soccer Cup returns to North Beach Wollongong
The Australian Beach Soccer Cup returns to North Beach Wollongong next weekend, 7-8th of December, with International teams participating for the first time.
Australia will be joined by China, Thailand and Vanuatu to challenge for the cup.
The tournament is in its 4th year and has had the much needed support of Destination Wollongong, local partners, sponsors and the endorsement of Football Federation Australia.
Beach soccer is a developing game around the world and the regular Wollongong tournament has become important for the Illawarra region and has had a positive economic impact.
2013 has also seen the 1st Wollongong Beach Soccer League take place over a 9 week period and it has been a great success with over 250 players in juniors, mixed and men’s divisions.
As well as the new league, Wollongong Beach Soccer runs regular training sessions, clinics, school programs and works with refugees.
The next step is to provide and conduct coach accreditation and referee courses.
The work of Wollongong Beach Soccer has been noticed by Beach Soccer Worldwide and has many followers and visitors from around the world on its social media sites.
The recognition Beach Soccer has gained in the last few years overseas will definitely help the image of the game and has made it become much more attractive for investment in the sport.
Beach Soccer is beneficial and fun for everyone involved by the fact that it brings fitness, sun, sand, water, music, dancers, energy and much more all together in one.
