The Board of Sydney Olympic FC is proud to announce that Evan Kostopoulos has signed for Sydney Olympic FC.

The 23 year-old A-League star flew in to Sydney and put pen to paper on Friday, after agreeing to terms with Sydney Olympic to play in the IGA NPL NSW Mens 1 competition in 2014.

On signing, Kostopoulos spoke to the media and spoke of his joy of restarting his career with the Blues, saying that “For teams outside the A-League, Olympic is as good as it gets.

“I’m definitely glad to be here,” said the winger, who proved he can also play in attack with a number of key Youth Team and First Team goals in his 3-year spell with Adelaide United. “This is a huge club and I’m happy to reignite my career with such a well-known team.

With a number of local and regional sides actively pursuing the speedster’s signature, it was a certain combination of factors which made signing with Olympic the right fit for both parties.

“Firstly there’s the history,” said Kostopoulos, “both with the Club itself and I’ve had family and friends very close to Olympic for a long time.”

The standard of football was just as important too. “They’re big leagues in the eastern states,” he added, “Sydney and Melbourne especially. The competitions here are full of household names in terms of the players and the teams, plus there’s more exposure.”

Exposure which, hopefully for young Evan, will lead to memorable performances for the Blues in front of some big crowds.

Asked about his targets for the season, the Adelaide-born Kostopoulos replied simply; “15 goals for me an a trophy for the fans.

“It’s a good setup here and I can’t wait to meet the boys and get stuck into training,” he said.

The Board would once again like to congratulate Evan on joining the Sydney Olympic family and wish him every success for the 2014 season.
