The inaugural Football NSW AWD Futsal League was launched in 2014 with astounding success.
The league comprised of two divisions with Kingz Rangers, Mountain Majik, Phoenix Futsal Club, South Coast Taipans and Sutherland Shire Futsal competing in Division 1, with additional teams from Kingz Rangers, Mountain Majik, Phoenix Futsal Club and Sutherland Shire Futsal making up Division 2.
An exciting and entertaining season culminated in the AWD Division 1 & 2 Grand Finals being played at the Football NSW Futsal State League Grand Finals weekend where Mountain Majik defeated Sutherland Shire 6-0 to claim the AWD Division 2 title and South Coast Taipans came out on top against Mountain Majik 2-0 to lift the AWD Division 1 crown.
Football NSW Game Development Manager Hayley Todd was extremely impressed by the Futsal community’s effort in embracing the AWD teams within their club environment.
“The support given to the AWD Futsal Leagues by the clubs who not only integrated the teams into their club structure but embraced their development over the duration of the competition was fantastic.
“We look forward to building on the AWD Futsal leagues in the coming seasons.”
Nathan Whalen was awarded the Golden Gloves for AWD Division 1 Goalkeeper of the Year, whilst Jake Denham of Mountain Majik was voted top custodian for AWD Division 2 Goalkeeper of the Year. Player of the Year and Coach of the Year for both Division 1 and Division 2 will be awarded at the FNSW Futsal Awards Dinner on March 1st.
