All systems go for round 3 of the Westfield FFA Cup
The iconic Westfield FFA Cup Preliminary Rounds continue this weekend with a host of football matches to be played around the state.
Eight clubs have already progressed to Round 4 courtesy of a third round bye, whilst a ninth has done likewise – Inter Lions SC going through as a result of a forfeit by Earlwood Wanderers.
Before the weekend kicks off, two games would’ve been decided as we went to press – the Bulli FC-Liverpool SC and Lilli Pilli FC-Dunbar Rovers ESFA clashes were played of an evening late in the week – stay tuned for those outcomes in next week’s review.
That means there will be a total of 46 matches to be decided over what looms as an avalanche of football this coming Saturday and Sunday.
Early rounds in any Cup competition are littered with banana skins, and the Westfield FFA Cup is no different, especially for PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s clubs from each divisions.
PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s stalwarts, Gladesville Ryde Magic, face Pittwater RSL from the Manly Warringah Football Association at Magdala Park on Sunday at 3pm, hoping to ease in to the fourth round without too much fuss.
Rydalmere Lions will be keen to overcome Nepean FC at Rydalmere Park on Saturday evening at 6pm, given a mouth-watering clash against PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s giants APIA Leichhardt Tigers looms in the distance.
Dulwich Hill FC will hope to brush aside Granville & District SFA local side, Pendle Hill, when they go head to head at Fraser Park on Sunday afternoon at 5pm, whilst fellow PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s side, Granville Rage, will be wary of the visit of Winston Hills SC to Garside Park an hour later.
Last season’s Cup overachievers, Balmain Tigers, who reached the first round of the Round of 32, eventually losing to Hyundai A-League giants Melbourne Victory, no less, will test their almost totally brand new squad with a first up game against Doonside Hawks at Valentine Sports Field 2 on Sunday evening at 7pm.
However, if you simply cannot get enough of football and are starved following a couple of dry summer months, then Pennant Hills Oval 3 is the place to be on Sunday.
There are four back to back matches in this year’s Round Three competition at this newly upgraded, state of the art synthetic pitch venue.
First cab off the rank is GHFA side, North Epping Rangers, who come up against PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s side, Hills Brumbies, at 2pm. Glenhaven FC tackle Coogee United at 4pm, whilst Kenthurst & District FC entertain Sydney University, from the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s, later that evening at 8pm.
But sandwiched in between these latter two games is the match all the locals will be out to see, commencing at 6pm, and that is between Pennant Hills FC and Prospect United, where ‘Penno’ hope to ride the exciting wave of momentum of celebrating their 60th year anniversary as they hope to progress in to the next round of this prestigious event.
