Urawa Red Diamonds enjoy VSP experience
J-League giants Urawa Red Diamonds warmed up for their first match in the AFC Asian Champions League match against the Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday with a training session at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday.
The team led by Serbian coach Mihailo Petrovic went through their training paces with the entire squad on Sunday as part of the J-League side’s warm up for what will be a huge clash against the Wanderers, fresh from their Derby victory over staunch rivals Sydney FC.
Mayor of Blacktown City Council, Stephen Bali, was a prominent onlooker as he watched on as well as posing for a few snaps at the end of their training session with the highly rated Japanese club’s team and staff.
The J-League outfit, who finished second in the Japanese elite season in 2016, flew into Sydney from Japan on Sunday morning after succumbing to a 3-2 Super Cup loss to the Kashima Antlers on Saturday.
The Red Diamonds with the likes of stars such as skipper Yuki Abe, Yuki Muto, Takuya Aoki, Zlatan Ljubijankic and keeper Shusaku Nishikawa all went through a light training session at Football NSW headquarters.
Urawa continue the long list of Asian football giant clubs utilising the lush surfaces at Valentine Sports Park with more teams expected to follow for the 2017 season.
