Running for the fourth successive year, Football NSW in collaboration with Eastern Suburbs FA, Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers and SEDA College saw students take in their first taste of grassroots and skills licence coaching via trainers Paul Reid, Jaime Gomez and Oscar Gonzalez.
This partnership enables and upskills students to use these coaching tips and techniques in delivering their own sessions during their Primary School coaching clinics.
All three coaches facilitated a practical environment for the students who were quickly into designing and delivering coaching sessions to their peers with a focus on ‘so change it’, progressing into the four key skill areas 1v1, striking the ball, first touch and running with the ball.
Gomez, Eastern Suburbs FA’s Technical Director was delighted with how the students approached the opening day.
“This is our fourth year supporting the college and the students have really reached a high level of both application and dedication to the course which is a credit to both the teachers and the college.”
While Football NSW’s Development Manager for Community Coaches Oscar Gonzalez also echoed Gomez’ sentiments on a job well done with the students.
“Football NSW is pleased to facilitate this fantastic Coach Education collaboration between SEDA College, Eastern Suburbs FA, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers.
“The purpose of the program is to enrich the students with coaching knowledge and experience while also being in a position to offer them a pathway and opportunities to work with both organisations.”
It was great to hear the constructive comments and feedback from students throughout the day which contributed to the increasing quality of the coaching plans, communication and implementation.
Completing the coaching qualifications with Football NSW is a competency requirement for the SEDA students achieving their sport and recreation qualifications.
SEDA College students use the qualifications to deliver five-week coaching clinics in primary schools and have been doing this now for over three years, gathering many great endorsements from client schools along the way.
SEDA College is a year 11 and 12 college for sports minded individuals interested in exploring a career in the sports industry.
