Football NSW is pleased to announce the first in a number of leading professionals from other sports that will speak at its 2019 State Coaching Conference.
The daylong conference will wrap up with a panel of distinguished guests from the sports of cricket, AFL, rugby union and rugby league.
The first two guests to be announced are Ms Leah Poulton from cricket and Mr John Quinn formerly of AFL and Athletics.
Ms Poulton is currently employed as high performance coach with Cricket Australia having previously played for her state of New South Wales and the national team in all formats of the game. As part of her current role she is trusted with overseeing the next crop of female players in the National Performance Squad. Leah was a member of the Australian Twenty20 team which won the ICC Womens Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies in 2010.
Mr Quinn is a widely respected leader in elite coaching across a diverse range of sports. In a career spanning more than 30 years, he has worked with many of the country’s leading athletes and coaches in track and field, swimming, AFL, rugby league, tennis, cricket, bobsleigh and even had a small period working with the Socceroos in 2006. He was a sprints coach for the Australian team at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, worked with the Essendon AFL team as Head Fitness Coach and High-Performance Manager for ten years and with GWS Giants for four years.
Football NSW’s Head of Football Peter Hugg stated “to have someone as highly regarded and experienced as John is a real coup for us. His expertise is highly sought after by both sporting teams and businesses alike and I am sure he will be a much-valued addition to the panel.”
“Similarly, I look forward to hearing from Leah who will be able to provide insight on the work that she is doing with the Australian Women’s cricket – including with former Matilda Ellyse Perry. The purpose of this session will be to listen to and benefit from those in the coaching and technical field from other sports and learn what they do to improve and develop their players and teams.”
Further announcements regarding other panellists will be made shortly.
