Granville & District Soccer Football Association side Granville Kewpies are set to host a milestone Centenary Dinner on the 7th of March at the Rydges Hotel in Rosehill, an evening that will see all past and present club members reunite in what will be an unforgettable evening for one of the oldest teams in Australia as they celebrate 100 years of football.
The Kewpies, known as the second oldest club in Western Sydney, were formed by a group of apprentices working at Clyde Engineering in 1919.
The group took their name from the Porcelain Kewpie dolls that many of the local soldiers returned, having brought them from France after the Great War to give to their wives and girlfriends.
The Kewpies have produced many Socceroos including Alan Garside, Bill Henderson and Eric Hulme to name a few.
During this Golden Period in the 1950’s, the Australian national team was flooded with a couple of Kewpie junior players adding to the club’s rich history.
