The NSW Chief Health Officer has this evening issued a letter to the sport and recreation sector recommending a tightening of restrictions aimed at minimising the risk of COVID19 transmission in community sport.

A Copy of the letter can be accessed by clicking here

We are currently assessing the recommendations and their impact on grassroots association football and on Football NSW Competitions and we are also seeking further clarification from NSW Health.

We will provide an update in due course at www.footballnsw.com.au/covid-19-information/.

In the meantime, for grassroots association football, our initial reading is that the below recommendations are the most important:

  • Cease face-to-face social activities relating to community sports (e.g. award ceremonies, end-of-season social gatherings, post-training group dinners);
  • Avoid carpools or bus travel with people from different household groups where possible; and
  • For local activities, limit spectators to one parent only, where the child requires parental supervision during the sporting activity.
