The 2021 FFA Cup Club applications to participate in the NSW Preliminary rounds have officially opened for Australia’s most prestigious knockout competition after taking a break in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
In what will be a massive year for the knockout Cup competition, Football NSW is formally inviting teams to participate in the Preliminary Rounds with a chance to progress to the 2021 FFA Cup Final Rounds.
As in previous years, entries are compulsory for all senior teams of the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s, Men’s 2, Men’s 3 and Men’s 4 competitions excluding Sydney FC NPL Men’s, Northbridge Bulls NPL Men’s, Western Sydney Wanderers NPL 2 Men’s, Central Coast Mariners NPL 2 Men’s and Newcastle Jets’ NPL 4 Men’s teams who are not eligible to participate in the 2021 FFA Cup NSW Preliminary Rounds.
Wollongong Wolves will automatically qualify for the round of the 32 of the FFA after being crowned NPL Finals Series Champions in 2019 while a further four (4) spots have been allocated to Football NSW clubs to progress into the 2021 FFA Cup Round of 32.
Football NSW’s Competitions Coordinator Wade Giovenali was anticipating record breaking club numbers as Grassroots teams across NSW prepare for its respective winter seasons shortly.
“The FFA Cup is very special to me as it brings together all levels of the game especially after a tough 2020 year where the competition was cancelled.
“The FFA Cup is a journey of a thousand miles that begins with a single team entry, it can become a fairytale story for any club wishing to take part where dreams become a reality for the lucky ones.
“We had 121 clubs involved in 2020 but the competition was cut so we are expecting more of the same if not more entries.
“Football Australia will be personalising club hype videos for each respective club entrants as well so that’s something else to look forward to apart from the football action.”
As in previous years, a formal Draw will take place to announce the opening round of Cup matches with dates on this to be announced in due course.
Association clubs have until 5pm, Monday 22nd February to get their entries in so don’t wait till the last minute get involved today.
