Football NSW was deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of former Socceroo and Sydney Olympic star George Haniotis.
The passionate footballer was one of the Blues’ best and most consistent players in the late 80’s and was renowned for his tenacious defending always giving 100% leading from the back.
Haniotis also played for the likes of NSW clubs Parramatta Melita Eagles and Canterbury Marrickville Olympic as well as West Adelaide, South China AA, Apollon Kalamarias and Panachaiki.
The 55-year-old was recorded as the #359 player to wear the Green and Gold as he represented the Socceroos in 1989 when they took on Fiji on the 3rd of December.
