NSW Football Legacy Program assists with female coaching development
A total of nine women spent their last two weekends undertaking the first half of their Advanced Coaching ‘B’ Diploma at Valentine Sports Park, eager to progress their coaching qualifications.
The large female representation was made possible by the awarding of Legacy Scholarships as part of the NSW Government’s $10m investment into women’s football, as a result of the FIFA Womens World Cup to be hosted by Australia and New Zealand in July.
Sydney University’s Football Development Officer Amy Shepherd, one of the nine female scholarship recipients, expressed her positive thoughts on the continual development of female coaches thanks to the $10m NSW Government investment.
“It’s great to be one of the female recipients of a ‘B’ Diploma scholarship thanks to the NSW Government’s Legacy Fund, which has enabled a great female participation of nine candidates on the course.
“The introduction weekends have provided a great learning platform to share football knowledge with like-minded people and expand the technical and tactical details required to deliver effective quality training sessions.
“I’m looking forward to putting all of that into practice throughout the National Premier Leagues NSW Women’s 2023 season before we all meet again in September.
“With the FIFA Womens World Cup only months away, the growth and expansion of womens football is really exciting, and it is great to see the investment in coach education, particularly assisting females to develop their own coaching journeys and pathways.
“With scholarships available for coaches, referees, volunteers and also leadership opportunities, I encourage other women in football to apply.”
The course continues in late September/October with participants spending the next few months putting their knowledge into practice with their own coaching sessions.
