| ‘Cougar Cubs All Abilities’ Program is offered to children 5-17years old who may require extra support to participate in a sports program. Being an ‘all abilities’, the intention is to create an inclusive program rather than a “special needs” program that segregates children with a disability. The program will also aim to support neurotypical children who have severe social anxiety, mental health and emotional support needs, and who may need accompaniment by family or carers.
The program will endeavour to provide a safe and inclusive space for children of all abilities to learn basic soccer skills, encourage physical health and fitness and gross motor function, support independence, meet and hang out with other children and learn how to work and play as a team. For some children hopefully it will be a platform they use to enter mainstream soccer while others are invited to participate in the program as it reoccurs annually, with encouragement and coaching to continue to develop the aforementioned skills. |
