Rampaging Riverina wrap up Country Cup
The 2008 Country Cup was conducted this weekend in venues across the state at Griffith, Orange and Nowra in what can only be described as an extravaganza of country representative football. A total of 54 exciting games were played to decide the Champion Branch to be awarded the Country Cup.
After two torrid days of competition, the mighty Riverina Branch all but swept everything before them in a very dominant and classy display of skill and determination by claiming seven of the nine age categories and stamping themselves as the most deserving winners of the 2008 Country Cup.
Southern Branch edged out Western Branch for the runner-up bragging rights. Western Branch were hampered in their claim for second place by a six points deduction from their total point-score due to their decision not to participate in the Grade 11 age category.
Football NSW congratulates all players from all Branches for the time and effort they and their parents and team officials have dedicated to their participation in this annual Country Cup tournament across such a wide area in these very difficult and expensive times.
