The Referees Department at Football NSW is run by Kris Griffiths-Jones, an experienced, highly qualified referee who currently officiates in the A-League and National Premier Leagues.
The department provides referees with accreditation and training opportunities throughout the year, as well as courses for referee assessors and instructors.
Football NSW also provides and facilitates support through the Referee Development Panel, Country Referee Development Program, Branch Workshops, Branch Updates, Club Workshops and Referee Assessment Programs.
The first step to becoming a referee is to complete the online Laws of the Game training module (run by Football Australia).
This free online training module provides you with a basic introduction to the Laws of the Game and their interpretations. After completing the course participants will receive a certificate which will allow them to continue on the refereeing pathway (please note, this course is a pre-curser to the Football Australia Level 4 Referee course and on its own does not provide you with any official Football Australia refereeing accreditation).
The next step is to attend a Level 4 (entry level) referee course. Courses dates and locations are listed here.
Once completed, you will need to join your local Referees Branch who will get you out on the park.
