Marconi Stallions claim NIKE Manchester United Premier Cup

Marconi Stallions laid claim to Nike Manchester United Premier Cup Champions of 2009 with a very exciting victory over an equally gallant Blacktown City.
In a match of outstanding quality equal to any grade far and above Grade 15, players from both Marconi and Blacktown displayed skills beyond their years in a tense match, which was only eventually decided by the single goal.
This goal may have been a cross, it may have been a shot, but it was certainly spectacular but for Daniel Cianci it was a goal he will not forget for many years, particularly if it takes his team to Old Trafford for the Finals of this competition.
To trot out an old clich?, this match was definitely a game of two halves, with Marconi the more dominant team in the first half and grabbing their winning goal in this period, whilst in the second half it was Blacktown that came out firing and although having at least ten shots on goal, were unable to snare the equalizer that would take the match to penalties.
Blacktown City First Grade coach Ken Schembri was a very interested observer and appeared very pleased with his young player?s efforts and said it all when he remarked, ?If you don?t take your chances, it is difficult to win matches of this caliber?.
This match was played before a very large crowd and they showed their appreciation to both teams for their fabulous display of football at the Presentation of the Trophy to Marconi Stallions and the match ball to Marconi Stallions? striker Daniel Cianci.
Marconi Stallions 15?s Premier Youth League squad now travel to Melbourne in April for the Australian Finals of this competition, with the winner of this stage, earning the right to travel to England for the International Finals at Old Trafford.
This the third time the famous Marconi Stallions club has had the opportunity to play in the Australian Finals and we all wish them every success in April.
The cost of the Marconi Stallions? travel to Melbourne and England, if they make it, will be met by the major sponsors of this competition, Nike.
