But Fraser Park may regret their switch of fixture with Macarthur Rams, as they suffered a 6-0 rout at Lynwood Park.
The huge win sees the Rams leap to second spot on the ladder courtesy of goals scored, over St George.
Feature Match of the Week
Macarthur Rams v Fraser Park
It was the Chris Gomez and Shannon Hankin show at Lynwood Park as the Macarthur front men scored five goals between them in the Rams? 6-0 hammering of Fraser Park.
Apart from the opening ten minutes or so, which started at a ferocious pace, Fraser Park were never in the contest and the game just went from bad to worse for the visitors from the time of the first goal.
Macarthur were on fire with Gomez and Hankin ripping into Fraser Park and it took only twelve minutes before the opening goal arrived. Hankin was fed nicely with a through ball, and, getting through his defender, surprised many when he was able to slot it away past Ivan Kovacevic.
Daniel Duarte struck shortly afterwards but his shot was parried, but he duly turned provider on the half hour after lofting a high ball in to the area. It was not really a ball which threatened danger, but Gomez got the better of Clive Delaney, lifted over to Hankin who swept away number two.
Even by this early stage, Fraser Park did not look like they would recover and when a third went in, before half time, with Gomez shooting over Kovacevic, it seemed just a case of how many.
Kovacevic did well in diving at the feet of Gomez five minutes after the break, to deny a fourth, but that was only delaying the inevitable. The best goal of the game was to come.
A fantastic run by Gomez, combined with neat interplay with Hankin, saw the striker zip past three defenders before scoring past Kovacevic. It was a great goal, indicative of the form that the Rams were showing. Poor old Fraser Park had no answer to the pace or enthusiasm of Macarthur.
The Rams were clearly enjoying the night, looking to score at every opportunity. It was not unusual to see six or seven Rams players streaming forward in attack, all looking to get on the scoresheet. Peter Halstead, the Kiwi playing in only his second game for Macarthur, looked impressive as did Craig Cooley, in his usual searching runs down the right.
The fifth goal came, on sixty five minutes, no surprise from the boot of Gomez, who later took leave of the game, his job for the night done.
With a quarter of an hour to go, Chris Godoy Boscur netted the sixth, after Kovacevic parried de la Cuadra?s strike, and the rout was complete.
The only unsavoury event of the night, for the Rams at least, was the dismissal of Godoy Boscur for violent conduct, behind play, with six minutes to go. It caused a minor contretemps for a few minutes, keeping referee David Christie very busy. After consulting with his linesman, Godoy Boscur departed thanks to a straight red.
Despite this, it was a relaxed Claudio Canosa after the game.
?I am definitely happy with the performance. We controlled the game, creating chances, and kept the ball well. Peter Halstead held it well too, and had a good game. As did Chris [Godoy Boscur] down the left.
But his send off will cause a rethink.
?I thought that I had the team sorted for Tuesday, when we play Northern Tigers. But now that he will be missing, I will need to rearrange?.
A slight chink in the armour, perhaps. Food for thought for the Tigers.
A simple comment from the Fraser Park camp told their story.
?It was a disaster?a disaster?.
