Women’s Super League Round 12 Review

DSC07370

As said in the preview for this round, football isn?t all sunshine, lollipops and rainbows. The heavy rain during the week meant that teams were unable to train and despite desperately wanting to, teams were unable to go head-to-head on the field of battle.
For most teams, this break means they have a chance to rebuild and rethink some tactics ahead of next weekend when Round 13 of the Women?s Super League kicks off.
Southern Branch 1 ? 2 Southern Districts
Being the only fixture to take place in Round 12 of the competition, Southern Branch were forced to move this game to Vic Zealand Oval after Ison Park was deemed unplayable.
With both sides heading into this fixture needing a win, Southern Branch knew that with a win they could move six points clear at the top of the ladder thanks to being two games ahead of second placed Eastern UNSW Lions. For Southern Districts, the target was to get at least a point on the road.
The game started at a strong pace with both teams pushing for an early goal. Southern Districts proved to be more prolific with R. Colin and J.McLaughlin both getting their names on the score sheet through two fantastically taken opportunities, guaranteeing the win for the travelling side.
For Southern Branch, despite some strong work in the final third of the pitch, the lone goal came from A.Graham after some great build up play. Branch fought hard for the 90 minutes however were unlucky to not capitalise on a number of opportunities.
The win sees Southern Districts put pressure on the top half of the ladder and maintain sixth spot on their mission to make it into the top four ahead of the finals series.
Next weekend sees Southern Branch make the trip up to Mills Park as they take on Northern Tigers whilst Southern Districts play host to Eastern UNSW Lions at Ernie Smith Reserve.

RESERVE GRADE
Southern Branch claimed a 2-0 win over Southern Districts in a dominating display at Vic Zealand Oval. Getting off to a strong start, Branch got off to a great start when they scored early, sending a shockwave through Southern Districts? squad. A second goal was enough for Southern Branch to get the win at home in the only fixture of the weekend.
With Lambert Park, David Phillips Field, Melita Stadium and Alec Lamberton Field all deemed unplayable, all reserve grade games are set to be played at a later date which will be advertised as soon a date has been confirmed.
