At the end of the 2009 season the Kellyville Kolts Soccer Club approached the Metro North Recreation Service to help set up and support their Super Soccer Program.
The Metro North Recreation Service is part of the Ageing, Disability and Home Care Metro North Region (ADHC). They provide community based recreation services for people with disabilities in the Northern Sydney, Cumberland Prospect and Nepean Local Planning Areas.
The ADHC Recreation Service had previously coordinated indoor soccer for special needs players that played each Saturday morning during the winter season. For a number of years there had been strong interest from players and families to transition to playing soccer outdoors on a larger field.
Since 2010 the Kellyville Kolts and ADHC Recreation Service have been working together to create a club based football program specially designed for players with intellectual disabilities. The aim of the program is to promote participation with a focus on playing, physical activities and making friends in a fun, safe and family friendly environment.
The club currently has 22 registered players for the 2013 season all over the age of 18. However the club would like to build their program in future years to incorporate players of all ages. The club has visions of providing opportunities for children as young as 5 through to over 18’s.
Training & games are held every Saturday morning at Bernie Mullane Sporting Complex (Field No. 5), 11:00am – 12:30pm. The program is ideal for players who are just starting out and/or who prefer to play fun soccer within a safer, more enjoyable and less competitive environment.
