Monday 17th June saw twelve coaches from various Football4all clubs and Special Olympics attend the ‘Working with Special Needs Kids’ Interactive Workshop held at Valentine Sports Park.
The session was hosted by FFA National Community Coach Education Manager, Norm Boardman and the current Pararoos head coach Paul Brown, at Football NSW’s headquarters.
Current Pararoo players Chris Pyne and Ben Atkins also attended the event giving an insight into their own experiences to all lucky participants that attended.
The twelve coaches were treated to a presentation from Paul Brown who spoke of the pathway to achieve National honours for athletes with a disability as well as some of the challenges the sport faces in the near future.
Both Chris and Ben shared their experiences of coming up through the ranks and challenges they met along the way.
The course provided coaches with the necessary skills to lead a special needs program or team.
Participants were given the tools to create a fun environment for players, one in which they can learn and build a love for the game. Coaches were challenged to come up with modifications of the activities in order to allow kids to become more involved and develop their skills.
The group was able to see that no matter what level you are coaching the theory behind it is all the same.
The official Football4all Gala Day will take place this Sunday at Valentine Sports Park in what promises to be a wonderful day for all everyone involved.
