Bankstown Football is striving to add more referees and female football players in 2023, with an incentive program for referees and a dedicated season for girls.

General Manager Leanne Millar said the Association was thinking outside the box to try and attract more match officials to support the growing number of participants – and therefore games – the Association needed to support.

The Association is running an incentive program for referees that will reward those who officiate the most games with bonus payments on top of their match fees.

Referees can earn bonuses based on the number of games they officiate throughout the 2023 season, with those who meet specific requirements being entered into a draw to win an extra $1000 at the end of 2023.

“It’s a really big push from our end because, without referees, we can’t have a game,” she said.

“Aside from these incentives, we won’t be charging referees any registration and we will provide free training.”

In addition to this, Bankstown Football is also looking to grow the number of female players at its clubs.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held in Australia this year. This could bring lots of young girls to the game of football.

Millar said the Associations had plans to begin running a girls-only Under-8 and Under-9 competition.

“We’re looking to ensure our clubs can field girls-only teams in this competition so that we can provide that girls-only environment at a younger level.”

With plans to run major marketing campaigns, Bankstown Football is hoping that by encouraging more females to get involved in the sport, they can lead the way for increased female participation across NSW.

The Association aim to provide a safe and inclusive environment where all players, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy football and reach their full potential. With an exciting range of opportunities available at Bankstown Football, there has never been a better time to get involved.
