The Nepean Football Association (NFA) is looking to the future in 2023 with a range of value-for-money programs to benefit its players and referees.

NFA long serving Chief Executive Officer Linda Cerrone said that she and her Association was committed to making sure the Association provided a safe, enjoyable environment for everyone involved.

“We are proud to be launching several initiatives that will help keep our participants match fit, provide support for female players and coaches, and make sure everyone feels comfortable playing or refereeing,” she said.

One of the exciting new programs being offered by NFA is the Match Fit Program. This program provides centralised pre-season training for senior and older players and referees, allowing them to stay injury free throughout the season.

“At Nepean we’re looking at participation and taking a wider lens than just saying registration is enough, we want to make sure our players are getting through the season,” she said.

“These sessions will support clubs in their pre-season efforts and offer expert football conditioning under the supervision of qualified coaches and staff to help make sure these players and referees can get through the season.”

The Association is also making it easier for girls to take up refereeing and coaching roles, with a broad range of support programs and education initiatives.

Cerrone said that this was not just about increasing the number of girls and women taking on these important roles, but was important for growing the overall playing levels amongst females.

“We’re sort of looking at it from the angle that if more girls and women can see other girls and women coaching or refereeing, then that might be something they look at doing themselves,” she said.

“But beyond that, we think that if more females can play in all-female teams with female coaches, it will help to increase the number of female we have playing the game.

“To help make this happen, we’re offering two scholarships per club – which is a value of about $11,000 across the Association – for any female coaches they send to do their grassroots coaching certificate.

“We are also offering 10 scholarships across the Association for female referees to do the entry-level course on a first-come, first served basis.”

Nepean Football is looking forward to a successful 2023 season with these fantastic value-for-money programs in place.
