Southern District Soccer Football Association club Liverpool Olympic FC have been rewarded for their persistence with $60,000 from the NSW Football Legacy Fund Infrastructure Stream – Round 2.

Liverpool Olympic FC has seen a spike in participation in recent years with growth of 12% between the 2021 and 2023 football seasons.  Notably, female participation has seen a commendable 60% increase, with the club even introducing a senior women’s team this year. The 2024 upcoming season has continued this trend with the club’s participation continuing to soar, boasting a monumental 49% growth since the 2021 winter season and 30% since the 2023 winter season. This surge in participation is a key reason why the upgrades are so necessary.

The success story here goes beyond the physical improvements that will benefit the club. It highlights the strong sense of community and unified effort that led to securing this grant funding. Liverpool Olympic have themselves co-contributed to the project, demonstrating their commitment to ensuring their club remains inclusive and accessible for all.

The planned upgrades will involve structural changes to the amenity building at Hoxton Park Reserve. This includes the refurbishment of male, female, and disabled toilets, along with the installation of a new canteen and essential utilities.

The club is particularly proud of the work, with Damien Gauci, a key figure at Liverpool Olympic, commenting on the project, “These new facilities will allow us to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone involved with the club.”

The work being done at Hoxton Park Reserve aligns perfectly with the NSW Football Infrastructure Strategy, which seeks to level the playing field and ensure access for all participants. The project specifically aligns with the key pillars of Inclusive Football Facilities, Improving Existing Venue Capacity, and Planning for Growth and Demand.

Commenting on the immense effort by Liverpool Olympic, Grants and Facilities Officer for the NSW Football Legacy Fund, James Spanoudakis, said, “It’s clear to see how driven the club is towards ensuring equity amongst all participants.”

Spanoudakis continued, “It’s fantastic to see how funds like the NSW Football Legacy Fund can fast-track the infrastructure projects of ambitious clubs like Liverpool Olympic.”
