State Cup and Champion of Champions Cancelled

Football NSW have announced the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 State Cup and Champion of Champions.

Given the current Public Health Order, given our discussions and briefings with various Government agencies, the daily updates from the Premier, the Minister for Health and the Chief Medical Officer, and understandably, there being no Government sanctioned roadmap out of the lockdown for sport, we were left with no option but to cancel both of our prestigious Association Cup competitions. This decision is consistent with those made recently by many of our Associations and by many other State sporting organisations.

Until 2020, the State Cup had been conducted every year since 1956 and the Champion of Champions tournament every year since 1968.

It is a matter of great sadness and an indicator of the extraordinary circumstances we find ourselves in that we look set to abandon these tournaments for a second year in a row.

Football NSW would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone – our players, coaches and technical staff, match officials and volunteers – for their contribution to our Competitions this season, and for your cooperation and assistance to the Football NSW staff during this difficult time.

We will be back bigger than ever, until then stay safe.
