The Football NSW Institute (FNSWI) Program celebrated the end of its 2014 season at Sydney’s Luna Park on Saturday 20th of September.

Approximately 300 players, coaches and family members attended the Football NSW Institute Presentation Day.

Socceroos Assistant Coach Ante Milicic was the special guest for the day.

Ante spoke fondly of the Socceroos experiences in Brazil at the FIFA World Cup, his own player and coaching journey, and presented the Football NSW Institute players with their medals.

Ante is well renowned in Football NSW circles as a former Head Coach of Sydney United 58 FC. Ante has also previously held Assistant Coaching positions with the Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne Heart in the Hyundai A-League (HAL).

Ante himself is a former Socceroo with a long and successful professional club career both in Australia and abroad.

Alex Tobin, Football NSW State Technical Director, emphasised the success of the Program in 2014 highlighting the high numbers of girls progressing into Westfield W-League Programs and the U16 Australian Women’s team and boys progressing into the National Youth League (NYL) and AIS (FFA Centre of Excellence) Programs.

“The fact that 6 out of the starting 11 who defeated Malaysia to qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup (men’s) last week are from the Football NSW Institute Program emphasises the Program’s philosophy to develop players and the quality of coaching within it.

“The Program is not only for the development of players, but for development of coaches who may progress along the pathway to coaching State Teams, NYL/HAL Clubs, or Australian National Teams.

“With the developments at Valentine Park due to be available for the 2015 season, it will further aid in the development outcomes for the players.”

The Institute coaches also highlighted the importance of prioritising learning outcomes for players and coaches over all else.

The Football NSW Technical Department wish to thank all coaches, players and families for their support.

To the players graduating from the Program, we wish you the very best with the next stage of your footballing career.
